A night with the Source SDK

February 26th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

I have this crazy desire to know at least the basics about everything tech related and tonight was time to tackle game development. Having read up a little bit about the Source SDK (software developers kit) I figured it would be something I could jump into fairly quickly. The interface reminds me of and odd mix between 3ds Max (formerly 3D Studio Max) and Adobe Photoshop. Using the excellent Valve Developer Community Wiki I came up with a simple alleyway map featured below:

Is this level going to show up in a future L4D campaign? 🙂

Nicely done! I didn’t know (or forgot) you were dabbling with source! Can you recreate the 2nd floor? 😉

it’s honestly been a while but from what I can remember I had to use multiple light sources for the street light. The first light is located right on the “glass” of the street light to give it it’s illuminated light with the next one pointing down in a conical shape.
